Kanal-Türpe Gochsheim invests in a multi-functional system by Pipetronics for renovations with sewer robots
PI-TRON milling and spray filler system was custom constructed in box truck according to customer specifications
Sewer renovation company Kanal-Türpe Gochsheim now has one of the most powerful systems for completing renovation work with sewer robots. The company from Lower Franconia invested in a PI-TRON milling and spray filler system by the company Pipetronics, which was integrated completely for the first time into a 12 tonne box truck.
“Everything in this system is custom made”, explains Yilmaz Saglam, responsible for vehicle construction at Pipetronics. Kanal-Türpe Managing Director Uwe Türpe had specific ideas about how the renovation vehicle should be equipped - and all of these requests were fulfilled.
The renovation system is equipped with four hydraulic PI-TRON robots for milling and spray filling work as well as a 100 metre cable drum, and can be used for work in sewers with dimensions between DN 140 and DN 800. In contrast to the standard system, in which the robotic equipment is built into a Mercedes Sprinter van and the generator and resin mixing system are integrated into a trailer, the complete system here was constructed inside a 12 tonne box truck. Outfitted with a control console, power supply, large water tank, climatic chambers, and storage space for all the materials required on the construction site, the complete system offers the best possible flexibility and can be used on construction sites for long periods of time with minimum preparation.
The specially constructed box truck, with a height and width of 2.38 metres, has a bumper precisely the same width as the truck itself. This makes it easier to manoeuvre the truck even in narrow passageways The height, somewhat taller than the standard of 2.10 metres, has the advantage of allowing workers to reach into the vehicle easily even when using the crane system. This patented and permanently integrated crane system offers lateral and vertical adjustment. It was installed into a renovation vehicle for the first time for this project, allowing for precise positioning of the sewer robot over the renovation shaft. Since this “loading lift” is also used for personal protection, there is no need to construct an additional tripod on the construction site. Besides the 100 meter cable drum, the climatic chamber developed by Pipetronics is also housed in the back of the vehicle. It can be used to cool or heat resins. A specialized cabinet for storing renovation sleeves is provided as well. The work stations with the resin mixing system and workshop are spatially separated, ensuring that clean work can be completed here at all times. The high quality cabinet and tool system offers a third more storage space for materials and tools, in comparison to the Sprinter version.
Noise insulated control room for fatigue-free work
The hydraulic aggregate for the robots, the large 500 litre water tank, and the power generator are housed in the front part of the box truck, which also offers plenty of storage space. The cleaning equipment is also stored here.
Client Uwe Türpe also placed great emphasis on the design of the control room and the operator’s workspace. The control room was completely sound insulated to ensure the employee can work for a long period of time without fatigue. Although the running power generator normally creates a noise level of around 80 decibels, the operator in this vehicle is only exposed to 55 dB. This is also made possible by the use of a Quickland power generator by Pipetronics, designed as a “low speed motor”, with an output of 14 kWh that works at just 1,500 rpm. “The system itself only needs 6.5 kWh, meaning that the power generator is a little oversized”, says Yilmaz Saglam. “However, this allows the customer to easily connect a coffee maker, air conditioner, or other devices without having to worry about running out of juice”.
Control console with combined keyboard and joystick controls
The control console is also a new development from Pipetronics. Although previous systems only allowed for a choice between controlling the robots via keyboard or joystick, this system now allows for both. The control console with individually adjustable monitors, as well as a PC and printer for documentation, offer the best possible conditions for precisely controlling the renovation robots during milling work or when using a filler and injection sealing system. Plans can be hung up on magnetic walls, and the room - equipped with climate controls, small kitchen, and break area - even includes a hand washing sink with hot water.
The entire interior of the system was designed using high-quality materials and stainless steel. Multiple smart details, such as a quick coupler system on all storage compartments for transportation security stainless-steel encapsulated space heater that can run for long periods of time without emptying the diesel tank, or an additional climatic chamber on the roof are designed to provide the best possible functionality and a long service life. Even the additional warning beacons were integrated into the original truck manufacturer's electronic system, “the customer won't even notice they are additional equipment”, says Saglam, noting with pride: “The customer wanted an a1 product, and I think we’ve succeeded very well in providing it”.
